some colour!

I continued with the painting today, the last I can do before school closes for five weeks. This is layer three, and I can open this kiln on friday.

I want to assemble her now! P6250412

It's nice to finally add some colour here, even though I like photos of the white porcelain alot...

the oracle girls & the dollshouse

I'm really enjoying my time off from school... I have a million fun little projects to attend to at home!

I started working on my dollhouse, hopefully more to come soon!

It's not occupied at the moment, at least not that I'm aware of, and I'm thinking of who might be living there eventually....

I'm moving a lot of stuff home from school, and I decided that these two doll heads will be left unpainted; I really like them as they are now.

I find them very soothing to look at; and dreamy... They will be my oracle, I will keep them by my workspace, perhaps they can offer some good advice! Like what color to choose for the dollshouse, maybe.

painting her

Today I started painting my new girl!

It felt really strange; as everything about her has felt - she is so BIG! Compared to my previous efforts, that is.
I'm not counting on this being final, as I've had a lot of trouble with the paint and the bisque being under fired, which only shows when you start painting..... So I've had to start over a lot of times - kind of frustrating.
But I'm learning as I go, I keep telling myself. Also getting to know a kiln takes some time, apparently - and this one has yet to surrender all of its secrets to me. Exciting.

I'm also painting the little baby mylings - but they will stay out of sight until completed! They are tired of me documenting them every step of the way and have asked me to back off. And I really respect them, and want them to feel happy!

Anyway, here is my new girl, or girls as they are being painted for the first time!

Test assembly of new doll!

I went to school early this morning and opened the kiln containing the first bisque-fired doll from my latest moulds.
It was a bit nerve-wrecking stringing her together, she's so tall and I didn't have the best work space or tools.. She is so tall! Haven't measured her yet, but she's around 50-60 cm tall I guess.

This is just a preliminary stringing, but it was still very nice to finally see my new doll coming together. I hope to finish her soon so I can sew for her!!
She'll need to be painted of course, and she needs a wig and eyes, too.
For now she will be in this state for a few days as she is part of my school duties, she will be exhibited for all the students in my class and my teachers.... I'm so nervous about people looking at my creations! What will they think?

In the meantime I'll be looking forward to a summer away from school, and hopefully being able to spend more time completing my doll-projects!

more porcelain body parts

I tried out some more moulds yesterday. I'm still very fascinated by all the casting and mould making!

......15 slipcast moulds later!

I can't believe it, almost. I'm finished with making the moulds of my new doll! I made the last one yesterday, and although I've been slaving away with this for about a month, I felt a little strange when I poured the last mould part...
And here they all are! I'm so proud of them!

And the prototype-doll is all finished and coated with shellac (for protection against the plaster when making the moulds).

I'm a little unsure of what to do with this prototype-girl! Right now she is resting in this cardboard box at school....

First from new moulds!

My new moulds are working! I tried casting from the two plaster moulds that were dry enough today. I'm so happy about this. Happy and excited! And very tired.
I love, love, love my new girl!

Upperbody
I cast two heads and two upper bodies that are drying now. Sister dolls?
They will be soft fired and cleaned next.

Mouldy me

I have been very busy making moulds in school this week. So enjoyable!
These moulds are of my latest doll-girl; my biggest, tallest girl. It has been really great to scale things up: she will be a giant among my other dolls!

I'm so fascinated by this whole process! I live in a mouldy doll bubble right now, it's great!

A Strange Day

It was late one foggy and not very creative day, when suddenly I started building this blog-thing. I've been meaning to for almost a year; and since I decided that this will be the spring when I finally start getting things done, I thought I should start doing this, too...
Tomorrow I'm going to school, to work on my latest doll girl, and I really can't wait! I need to finish her now so that I can start making the moulds and casting.
Casting seems to be addictive, by the way... Be warned!
It's all I can think about these days.
